electric extension box same size?
the electric extension box is the same size as the electric box in the wall. isn't the blue extension supposed to fit inside of it? is this the only way to bring an outlet to the surface of a new back splash? wiring is really old. there are multiple layers, drywall, plywood, backer board, and then tile. we only added the backer board and tile everything else was already there and we did not want to rip all that stuff off.
By National Electric Code the extension should be flush with the surface.
The extension box is the same size as the first box, but hollow to increase the area or your case extend the length when the wall gets built up around it. It has bent lips at a 90 degrees to screw it to the original box.
When you said blue I think you mean plastic. Because I only worked with metal boxes. Plastic boxes are not used in my area.
As the wiring gets old it gets brittle, so it does not pack well so it is allowed to hang free in the box extension.
